Hi,
I just joined live journal, and posted my first entry. But, I can't figure out how to use the LJ-Cut. I read the FAQ which give directions for both rich text and html. I'm just using rich text, but I don't see the LJ-Cut button anywhere on the page. Please, if anyone knows how to do this, let me know?
Thanks.

Jen:

I can give you the manual HTML to make your LJ cuts, however I am positively miffed on how to use the LJ-cut buttons on the 'post an entry' page—truthfully, I've been too set in my ways to play with the rich text feature.

Less sign followed by lj-cut text="example text here" followed by a greater sign.

Closing your cut:

Less sign slash lj-cut.

It'd look like this if it was in your entry.

<lj-cut text="Grocery list">
1. Butter.
2. Eggs.
3. Water.
</lj-cut>

I hope this helped some.

Thank you. I don't know html. In order to use the html editor, will I need to type anything else in order to show my text both before the cut and after?
Thanks again.

I have another question for anyone who can help. Does anyone know how to make the pages show each entry as a separate heading? I've seen it on another lj page, and I'd love to do that for easy navigation.
Thanks

sorry, but yet another question, <smile> if anyone knows how to do this. I was wondering how I can add my friends to a group after I've already added them to my friends list? I forgot to organize them when I did it.
Thanks.

Hiya.
If you go back to each add a friend page, you can check checkboxes to add them to groups. I.E., if you added them as a friend already, click on the "add this user to your friends list" link again from their profile, and when it takes you to the page, check the checkboxes for the groups you want them to be in. You can also customize groups with all of the LJ clients, but it's kind of hard/complicated.
Good luck!
P.S. About the entries as separate headings query, you can probably do that by using a different layout. Unfortunately, I don't know which layouts work best with headings. You might ask at
www.livejournal.com/users/blindpeople
, since there are tons of blind LJers in one place there.
Hope this helps! Take care!
Caitlin :-)

It's the "clean and simple" style.

Might I add that it's disgraceful how much crap clutters the LJ page nowadays? Remember when it was beautiful and clean by default? Gosh.

Thanks caitlin! It worked like a charm, the friends groups I mean.
As for the headings, I tried the clean and simple style, but that wasn't it. I'll try to contact that group to see if they can suggest anything.
Thanks again everyone for all your help.

Keep us posted, if you don't mind. You never know when we'll all need to fix our journals, too. I'm curious which styles are the easiest to use. I think I'm using Movable Squares or whatever...is it flexible squares? Lol something like that. You might try that one.
